Go inside a lava flow
The village of Volvic has two natural treasures: its mineral water and its stone! Quarried from the 13th century onwards, Volvic stone has been used in the architecture of many Auvergne towns and cities. It has given life to some of Auvergne’s finest buildings, including Clermont-Ferrand Cathedral and the Basilica of Saint-Amable in Riom.
Located in an exceptional setting, the Grotte de la Pierre is the result of a lava flow from the Nugère volcano. The volcano erupted 13,000 years ago. From the 13th century onwards, the site was used for stone quarrying.
