Panoramique des Dômes

Take on the puy de Dôme by cogwheel train!

At the very heart of the Chaîne des Puys – Faille de La Limagne, an exceptional geological site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, set off on an assault on the 1,465-metre-high Puy de Dôme. At its summit, you’ll discover memorable landscapes and a 360° panorama of some 80 dormant volcanoes. It’s a thrilling experience in the heart of this fragile natural area! A must-do activity in Terra Volcana.

And what would you say if we added that this unique site, which has been awarded the “Grand Site de France” label, can be reached in just 15 minutes thanks to the Panoramique des Dômes?

Good deal: with the Terra Volcana Pass, the round trip is included!

And even more than exceptional panoramas, this electric cogwheel train gives you access to a whole host of activities…

Before setting off to tackle the sleeping giant, make a stop at the Maison de Site. There, next to the departure station, you’ll find “L’Espace Voyage Au sommet des Volcans”, where you can find out all about the history of the puy de Dôme and its cog railway. What’s more, your children will also be able to discover the special features of the site in the “Coin des Petits Dômes”, an interactive area that will tell them all about the natural history of the Chaîne des Puys. Then it’s off up the mountain. A word of advice: keep your eyes peeled!

The Puy de Dôme, a great natural site but not only ...

Once you’ve reached the summit of Auvergne’s most famous volcano, you’ll be in for a real treat, both naturally and historically.
First of all, try your hand with your family or friends at the permanent treasure hunt “Mystères au Puy de Dôme, les Reliques du Temple”.
With its 3 levels of difficulty, this is an activity that’s accessible to everyone!

Then come and walk on the summit of the Puy de Dôme and explore its themed hiking trails. The Pilgrims’ Way, the Conquerors’ Way and the Curious Men’s Way welcome adventurers of all ages.

Then discover the restored remains of the Temple of Mercury. These date back to the 2nd century AD and feature an interactive museum area. Find out more about the largest mountain temple in Roman Gaul! It’s a great way to step back in time!

Feeling peckish or hungry? The site’s three catering areas should be just what you need.

Finally, the Puy de Dôme and the Panoramique des Dômes offer free, open-access events all year round. Guided walks, concerts, yoga sessions, theatre…
