 The most beautiful walks in Puy-de-Dome

When hiking in the Puy-de-Dôme, you won’t want to miss our sleeping volcanoes! Here, on the north face of this unique tectonic complex, listed as aUNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018, their names are Puy de Louchadière, de Jume and de la Coquille or Puy des Gouttes. And their summits give you the shivers, because they offer such XXL emotions!
A sublime hike starting from the hamlet of Beauregard allows you to discover these volcanoes, which are just a few kilometres away from the famous Puy de Dôme. Come on, wake up early, it’s not every day you get to climb three volcanoes in 16 km! A one-day hike? Bivouac for 48 hours or more? Our guides will make your memories of the Chaîne des Puys indelible!

Looking for a hike near Châtel-Guyon? Discover the Gorges d’Enval (A.P.A.G.E. trail), following the stream as it rises through chestnut undergrowth, with dazzling views of the Château de Tournoël and the Chaîne des Puys in the distance. Looking for something refreshing? The Petit and Grand Gornand waterfalls await you, as does the Bout du Monde waterfall!

The GR441

Also known as the Tour de la Chaîne des Puys, is an emblematic long-distance hiking trail in the Auvergne. It is 114 km long and allows you to discover the Chaîne des Puys on foot, a natural site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This hike in the Chaîne des Puys offers exceptional panoramic views of the Auvergne volcanoes, including the famous Puy de Dôme, volcanic ridges, forests and crater lakes. The route can be completed in 5 to 6 days, with a cumulative difference in altitude of around 3,000 metres, making it an accessible adventure for regular hikers. The GR441 route generally starts in Volvic and passes by must-see sites such as Vulcania, while offering variations to suit the length and difficulty of the trek.
