From the charming spa town of Châtel-Guyon, a hundred kilometres or so will take you through the medieval wine-growing village ofArtonne, the ancient fortified town ofAigueperse and its delicious home-made pralines, and the Butte de Montpensier, a veritable balcony overlooking the volcanoes.

Just a few kilometres separate you fromEffiat and its magnificently decorated Renaissance château, as well as Randan and its fascinating Domaine Royal, with its astonishing size and distinctive silhouette.

One visit and then you’re off, and the road stretches all the way to Maringues, the town of tanners and its picture-postcard scenery.
