The whole family is sure to love it, right in the heart of the volcanoes of the Chaîne des Puys, a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

At Vulcania, the whole family will have a date with Professor Yapadrisk, who needs some help! During the All Saints’ Day holidays, young explorers can help the professor find the antidote to control the ferns, which have become carnivorous and uncontrollable!

2. Halloween party at Terra Volcana

Are you feeling the heat? Well, Terra Volcana’s key associations and venues have prepared some evenings that are as terrifying as they are fun. So everyone get busy and put on your scariest costume!

3. Fun tours and creative workshops With the Pays d'Art et d'Histoire de Riom

The holidays are also an opportunity to take an interest in local history and heritage. The Pays d’Art et d’Histoire has put together a programme to share with the whole family:

With fun tours, storytelling walks and even workshops to create your own stained glass, there’s plenty to do during the holidays in Terra Volcana!

4. Museum holidays

In Riom, the Musée Mandet and the Musée Régional d’Auvergne offer guided tours and workshops for families and children.

There’s also anescape game called “Prisoners of the Past”, where you can try to solve the riddles to find your way back in time and escape the curse. An activity for all the family!

To celebrate Halloween, the museums have prepared a few surprises, including treasure hunts and fun tours. Don’t forget to check the events calendar.

6. Trembling at Artonne

Here’s an experience that’ll make your blood run cold! On 31 October and 1 November, 20 minutes from Riom in the hamlet of La Ronzière in Artonne, disturbing and inexplicable phenomena are taking place within the castle walls.

Only the most daring will dare to push open the doors of this building to find out what’s going on. Combining theatre, film and a haunted trail, this event is for over-14s only and is not open to children under 12.

Don’t forget to come dressed up for Artonne frissonne!

7. Immerse yourself in the magical world of the Grotte des Lumières

In Volvic, a magical, colourful world lies hidden in the bowels of the earth. Follow Volvis the little otter on his journey to meet the spirits of nature. It’s a family experience that’s sure to make children’s eyes light up. The tour lasts 45 minutes and takes the form of video mapping projected onto the walls of the cave.

The Grotte des Lumières can only be visited on Wednesdays and Sundays.

On the other days of the week, the historical tour will take you back in time to this emblematic site in the region’s history. The Grotte de la Pierre is an old gallery used to extract Volvic stone from the Puy de la Nugère lava flow. During your visit, you’ll be immersed in the history of this centuries-old craft. Today, Volvic stone is used in sculpture.

8. Hunting monsters in the trees At the Parc Écureuil

Every afternoon during the holidays, adventurous climbers and thrill-seekers are invited to the Parc Ecureuil in Châtel-Guyon for a special Halloween monster hunt, complete with a quiz.

Players who find the monsters and answer the quiz correctly will be entered into a prize draw to win the special prize: a stay for 4 in the park’s tree house!

If you’d rather be on the cow floor, the Parc Ecureuil offers other activities to enjoy with family and friends.

You can practise your sense of direction and logic in an outdoor escape game, or go in search of geocaches in the woods, equipped only with a GPS beacon and a route booklet.

The more daredevil types can have fun and experience the thrills of all-terrain electric scooters through the woods of Châtel-Guyon. A fun and exciting activity to enjoy with teenagers!

9. Workshops and educational visits For small children

It’s not always easy to keep our youngest children occupied. Here are two ideas for outings for children under 6.

  • La Ruche des Puys in Saint-Ours is a small museum about the world of bees, life in a beehive and the job of a beekeeper. Visits are accompanied by an interpreter for a fun experience. And for even more fun, there are workshops every afternoon. Youngsters aged 3 and over can create their own land art and even make their own beeswax candles! From the age of 5, they can create an insect nesting box or taste edible insects… yuck!
  • In Chapdes-Beaufort, the Ferme de la Marinette is a real paradise for children. They can meet the farm animals, enter some of the enclosures to stroke the guinea pigs, goats and chickens, and even feed them.

10. Festival of walks

Do you like walking? Then you’re in luck, because we’re bringing you the Festival de Balades during the first week of the All Saints’ holiday. There will be no fewer than 40 themed walks for all ages and abilities.

From buggy rides for the very young, to off-road electric scooter rides for teenagers, to sunset gourmet walks and heritage walks, there’s something for everyone! It’s a great way to discover hiking in the Puy-de-Dôme!
